Rural Farmhouse

Set above open pasture with woods behind it, Rural Farmhouse has the kind of front porch that becomes part of daily life. The wide covered stretch is lined with black columns and ceiling fans, beneath steep gables and a brick-faced porch bay. White siding and black windows keep the exterior simple. Inside, reclaimed-wood Z-brace barn doors slide across the pantry opening, and a kitchen island combines turned legs with knotty wood paneling. Exposed stained beams carry that wood tone overhead. In the living space, a rough-hewn mantel sits against a shiplap fireplace wall. Stained-wood mudroom lockers, board-and-batten wainscot and French doors continue that practical mix of painted and natural finishes.
