A Custom Home Should Start With You

There isn’t one way to build a custom home with Mike Stevens Homes. Some homeowners come to us with architectural plans already complete. Others have a property and an idea, and need help turning it into a home. Some begin with one of our previous plans and make it entirely their own, and others call before they’ve even purchased the land. Wherever you are, that’s where we start — with the right people and experience around your project from the beginning.

The Land

Built Around Your Property. And Your Life.

A custom home begins long before finishes and fixtures. It starts with the property and the people who’ll live there: how the sun moves across the homesite, the view you want to wake up to, where guests arrive, and how the home connects to the outdoors. We weigh those alongside the realities of the land itself — topography, orientation, access, privacy, and the landscape around it.

If you already own your homesite, we’ll help you understand what it can do. If you’re still looking, we can evaluate a property with you before you make the investment. The best time to think about how a home belongs on the land is before you design the home.

The People

The Right Team Around Every Home.

A custom home brings together a lot of people, and the finished home depends on the quality of every one of them. Over decades of building in East Tennessee we’ve developed relationships with exceptional craftsmen, tradespeople, artisans, suppliers, and specialists — and just as important, we’ve built an experienced team inside MSH to guide each project from beginning to end.

Every home has a dedicated project manager overseeing the day-to-day details, supported by our design team, our leadership, and the broader network involved in the build. That depth matters when plans change, questions come up, or a home calls for something out of the ordinary. You’re bringing an entire team to the table, and it shows in the finished house.

The Design

Custom Means Choices.

Some homeowners want to begin with a blank page. Others already have plans they love, and some find a previous MSH home and immediately see the possibilities. All of those are good places to start. Through our in-house Design Division we can develop a completely custom home around your property, customize one of our previous plans, work from plans you bring us, or collaborate with an outside architect. From the layout and architectural character down to cabinetry, flooring, stone, lighting, plumbing, and hardware, the decisions are yours — with an experienced team there to help you navigate them.

The Details

Experience Behind the Details.

Beautiful homes are often defined by details that look effortless once they’re finished, and getting there takes experience. Throughout construction your project manager oversees the daily progress of the home, working alongside the craftsmen, tradespeople, and specialists on the project — and every part of the house benefits from the experience of the people behind it.

The Life

Built With the Future in Mind.

A custom home should work beautifully when you move in and keep working as life changes. That might mean space for children or grandchildren to visit, planning for aging in place, room for hobbies and entertaining, or technology that makes everyday life easier. It can also mean thinking ahead about how rooms might be used differently years from now. The decisions made during a custom build let you plan for what you need today and what you may want tomorrow, and a well-built home should be ready for both.

The Place

Building in Knoxville & East Tennessee

Every homesite brings its own possibilities. MSH builds throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee — established neighborhoods, private acreage, lakefront properties, and communities like Tennessee National. Decades of building here come with an understanding of the land, the local building environment, and the people it takes to build well in this region. Whether you own your property, are relocating from another state, or are still searching, we can meet you wherever you are in the process.

Ready to Build Your Home?

You don’t need every decision made before you call. Bring the property, the plans, the inspiration, or simply the idea that it’s time to build, and we’ll start there.
