More Than a Builder
Knoxville is where we’ve built our reputation, one home at a time. Over the years we’ve watched East Tennessee grow, helped shape some of its most distinctive communities, and built on many of its most beautiful properties.
A custom build involves thousands of decisions. It helps to work with people who can solve problems, keep details moving, and know exactly who to call when a project needs a particular kind of expertise. Our project managers, designers, and leadership are backed by trade relationships earned over decades, and those relationships become part of every home we build.
Recognition
Voted Knoxville’s Best Custom Home Builder year after year. As a member of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program, MSH was selected to build the 2021 Southern Living Showcase Home in Northshore Town Center, and Mike’s service to the industry includes leadership at the local, state, and national levels along with induction into the Tennessee Home Builders Hall of Fame.
The recognition that means the most to us never comes with a plaque, though. It’s the homeowner who calls again years later, or introduces us to a friend.

Giving Back
East Tennessee has given us a place to build a business, raise families, and call home, and giving back has always been part of that. Over the years MSH and our team have supported organizations doing meaningful work here, including Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, Susannah’s House, and Sertoma Center. For Mike, that has included two terms as president of Knoxville Habitat for Humanity.

MSH can design a completely custom home through our in-house Design Division, customize one of our previous plans, build from plans you already have, or collaborate with an outside architect. Design Division
A beautiful home starts with understanding how you want to live in it. How you entertain, where everyone gathers, and the spaces that make everyday life easier. Those conversations shape everything from the floor plan to the finishing touches.
Our Design Division offers two distinct services: MSH Designs for home design and floor plans, and MSH Interiors for selections, interior design, and furnishings.
MSH Designs focuses on the home itself. Our in-house team can create a custom design from the ground up, adapt plans you already have, or help you explore our collection of customizable MSH Home Plans.
MSH Interiors focuses on the spaces within. From cabinetry, flooring, and lighting selections to interior design, furnishings, and final styling, our team helps create a home that feels considered and comfortable.
You can work with one team, both teams, or bring your own design professionals. We’re here to support the level of design involvement that’s right for your project.
Introducing MSH Home Plans
After decades of custom building, we’ve heard one question more than any other: “I love that house. Can we build something like it?”
Now we’re opening our archives and sharing home plans inspired by houses we’ve designed and built. Each plan can be customized to suit your property, preferences, and lifestyle.
The renderings represent new exterior interpretations of homes MSH has previously built, using different materials and finishes.

Over decades of building in East Tennessee we’ve developed lasting relationships with craftsmen, tradespeople, artisans, vendors, and specialists who share our standards, and there’s real confidence in knowing the people you work alongside and the quality of what they do. Our dedicated project managers bring all of those moving pieces together, supported by our design team and experienced leadership. That team, built through years of working together, is one of the best things we bring to every home.
Where We Build
Most of the homes we’re building today are in and around Knoxville and Farragut, and in Loudon at Tennessee National, where MSH is a preferred builder. We also build throughout the surrounding East Tennessee communities, on lakefront homesites, private acreage, and lots in established neighborhoods. More and more of the homeowners we work with begin their build from somewhere else — coming for the lakes and mountains, more land, a different pace, or family already here.
Building from another state can feel like a lot to manage from a distance, and that’s exactly where an established local team matters. You’ll have a dedicated project manager overseeing your home, supported by our experienced team and the craftsmen and specialists bringing it to life, from wherever you are.

A custom home is a lot of decisions, details, people, and moving parts, and our job is to bring experience and organization to all of it so you always know where your home stands.

It starts with understanding your goals, property, priorities, and the investment you’re comfortable making.

We work through plans, selections, budgeting, and construction preparation, coordinating the people and decisions needed to move forward.

Your dedicated project manager oversees construction and keeps you informed along the way. From your final walkthrough to our dedicated warranty team, we’re here long after move-in.
